Cherilyn S.L. Lai, O.D

Dr. Cherilyn S. L Lai received her Doctor of Optometry degree (O.D.) from the Southern California College of Optometry in 1994. Dr. Lai’s clinical interests include contact lenses and primary eye care. She also has a special interest in geriatric vision. In 1996, Dr. Lai was honored as the Young Optometrist of the Year by the Hawaii Optometric Association for her numerous professional accomplishments. She was a past board member for the Hawaii State Board of Examiners in Optometry, past reviewer on the Council on Optometric Practitioner Education, examiner in the National Board of Examiners in Optometry, and chaired our state optometric convention. She currently sits as a board member for the HOA, and is a board member of the See Dai Doo Chinese Society. Dr. Lai is married and has a daughter and son.

Kristin K. Shimabukuro, O.D

Dr. Kristin Shimabukuro received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern California College of Optometry in 2007. She then completed residency training at Gallup Indian Medical Center in Gallup, New Mexico. Her hospital-based residency offered primary eye care exposure with emphasis on ocular disease management and geriatric eye care. Dr. Shimabukuro was born and raised in Hilo, Hawaii, and is a graduate of Waiakea High School. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Willamette University in Salem, Oregon. She is currently a member of the American Academy of Optometry and the Hawaii Optometric Association. In her spare time, Dr. Shimabukuro enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends and completing various arts and crafts projects.
